Latest Civil Service Exam Coverage, Scope, Passing Rate and Tips #CSE-PPT


The Civil Service Commission(CSC)  is a government owned body agency with has the only purpose is to manage those qualified members in the PUBLIC/government service.

CSC emphasized the importance of passing the civil service examination, saying that it is a vital step toward entering a career in government. Passers are enabled to either the professional or sub-professional eligibility, which is a basic requirement – together with education, experience and training – for permanent appointment in the career service.

The Civil Service Commission offers two levels of Career Service Eligibility Examination, one is Professional level and the other is Subprofessional level. You can take these exams through paper and pencil (PPT) or a through computer-assisted test (CAT).

Let us by defining the difference between Professional and Sub-professional level. Most examinees are caught in confusion on what is the difference of the two, technically they are almost the same, the position you can apply for in a government office depends on the type of eligibility. REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS


Career Service Professional and Sub-professional examinations are open to applicants regardless of educational attainment. The CSE-PPT for Professional and Sub-professional levels are open to Filipino citizens who are at least 18 years old at the time of filing of an application, regardless of educational attainment.

Take note: CSC has given info that any Filipino Citizen can file the application if he/she is already 18 years old even if you are not in college or any educational attainment.

Applicants for both level must:

1.Be Filipino citizens, at least 18 years old, and of good moral character;
2. Have no criminal record or have not convicted by final judgement of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude;
3. Have not been dishonorably discharged from military service or dismissed for cause from any civilian position in the government; and
4. Have not taken the same level of career service examination within three (3) months from the last examination taken.

The CSC clear up that there is NO MORE limit in taking the Career Service Examinations. An individual may consistently take the number of times failed, provided that the examinee takes the same level of examination once in every three months.

  • Analogy
  • Logic
  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Clerical Operations
  • General Information about-Philippine Constitution; Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (R.A. 6713); peace and human rights issues and concepts; and environment management and protection.

Sub-professional Level
  • English and Filipino
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar and correct usage
  • Paragraph organization
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Clerical Operations
  • General Information about-Philippine Constitution; Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (R.A. 6713); peace and human rights issues and concepts; and environment management and protection.

If you choose to take an exam in Sub-professional level the coverage of the exam is almost similar with the Professional Level exam, the only difference is that Analogy and the Logic are not included in this level but is replaced with Clerical Operation questions.

PASSING RATE

All CSC exam-professional and subprofessional; Paper and Pencil and Computed-Assisted Test require a passing rate of 80%.

TIPS AND OTHER RELEVANT FACTS

You are not permitted to use calculator during the examination period but don’t be worried don’t need to become a math expert to be able to solve math problems but you must need to study, review and practice before entering the designated examination areas. For professional level examinees will only given 3 hours and 10 minutes to answer 170 items time starts from 8:00 AM to 11:10 AM and for sub-professional examinees will only given 2 hours and 40 minutes to answer 165 items time starts from 8:00 AM to 10:40 AM. So if you find one hard question to answer do not stay on it go back after if you have a spare time so that you can move on to the next question.
